Legal Support Team Interest Form
The Department of Justice is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who wish to join the Legal Support Team.
The Legal Support Team is one of the Department’s core support functions, providing legal, legislative, communications and administrative assistance across the Department of Justice and wider Executive Branch.
Members may support the preparation of public announcements, respond to congressional enquiries, conduct legal research, review policies and procedures or assist the United States Attorney’s Office with case preparation.
This interest form allows the Department to identify candidates for current and future vacancies within the team. Submitting an interest form does not guarantee an interview, appointment or offer of employment.
Areas of Responsibility
Press and Communications
Prepare departmental announcements, updates and press releases
Publish approved communications through official DOJ platforms
Assist the Executive Team with clear and timely public messaging
Respond to general press or departmental enquiries where authorised
Legislative Support
Respond to congressional enquiries on behalf of the Department
Research existing legislation and identify potential legal gaps
Assist with drafting proposed legislation or statutory amendments
Support DOJ leadership with legislative and policy development
Legal Support
Conduct legal research for the Executive Team and departmental leadership
Provide general guidance on policies, procedures and legal frameworks
Review departmental documents, contracts and agreements
Identify potential legal or procedural risks
Legal Assistance
Support the United States Attorney’s Office with case preparation
Assist with research, document preparation and case-building activities
Provide additional support where operational vacancies or complex matters require it
Work under the direction of an authorised attorney when handling active cases
Community Legal Support
The Legal Support Team may also assist members of the community by:
Providing free legal templates and publicly available resources
Answering general legal and procedural questions
Directing complex enquiries to an appropriate attorney
Supporting new and aspiring legal practitioners
Members of the Legal Support Team must not act as legal counsel or represent parties in active proceedings unless specifically authorised.
Requirements
Must have held American citizenship for at least 14 days
Roblox account must be at least 90 days old
No current National Security Threat designation
Must not be blacklisted from any government department
No current affiliation with a criminal organisation
No arrests within the previous 21 days
Strong written communication and attention to detail
Ability to conduct research and present information clearly
Must be capable of handling confidential information
Previous legal, government, communications or legislative experience is preferred
Bar Certification is preferred for legal work but is not required for every position
Applicants must provide accurate information throughout the interest process. False, misleading or incomplete submissions may result in immediate disqualification.
